ROLE OF MEDIA IN MAINTAINING DIPLOMATIC RELATIONSHIP

The term media means the communication channels which helps for promulgating the news, education, movies, music, promotional messages, and other particulars. It can be of any type either physical or online such as e-newspaper, telephone, television, radio, fax, email, etc. First and foremost media includes every medium through which the information can be disseminated to the audience. Above all the given media television and radio are the prominent platform for sharing the information as many people are connected to it.

Coming to Indian news channels, there are 90% channels which are owned and ran by private companies that only cares for earning the profit by raising its Television Rating Point (TRP). These privately owned channels, in general, don’t look after the information they are sharing, what their impacts are, what turmoil it can create, how it can deteriorate the relationship between two countries but they only care about their TRP which helps them earning the money. In the present time everyone can sense that the privately earned news channels are mostly used for spreading the propagandas of the political parties to defame the opposition party or vice-versa.

Recently Nepal banned Indian news channels. It was because some of the news channels were running the program that was stating the Chinese ambassador is Honey Trapping K.P Oli, Nepal’s Prime Minister. A news channel should never anticipate things going on and just share it publicly but there should always be fact-driven information. Though it may be true what’s going-on, such sensitive information shouldn’t be shared in news media directly which can hamper and further deteriorate the relationship between two countries. People of any country won’t listen or tolerate the defamation of their Prime Minister apart from political instances, either it is Nepal or India. Indian should have put facts on how Nepal is aligning toward China but stating this with such nuisance programs is totally absurd.

Undoubtedly, there is a requirement of some restriction that has to put on news channels when it comes to diplomatic relations. Further, the news channel which spreads the propaganda and fake news must be banned in every country but we know that the political influence will not let it be successful. The best option is that Telecom Authority should be vested with some powers so that they can regulate private news channels more efficiently and smoothly. It will also help in managing the fake news.
