THE CHANGING DIRECTION OF WIND: INDIA

India has been showing its appeasement policy against China since early 1950. China, the country having an expansionist vision always tries to claim the land of its neighboring countries as theirs. This policy of China has been seen since 1950 after the annexation of Tibet and they are still following the same. During the annexation of Tibet, no country questioned China about it which proved to be impunity to China. Though India is a neighboring country of Tibet didn’t bother to question China so that they can appease them.

Since the clashes between the Indian Army and the People’s Liberation Army at Ladakh. The direction of wind started changing since then and now India has tightened its seat belt to deal with China through different strategies. India’s appeasement policy to China was the reason behind which was letting India not to act against China. Though India being late to anticipate the tactics of China earlier, it is good that this time they have changed their viewpoints against China, and moreover, it is a laudable step. To counter China, India has started the campaign of Atmanirbhar Bharat (Self-reliant India), banned 59 Chinese applications, embargoed investment by Chinese companies in India and now working with different countries like the USA, The Philippines, Australia along with Japan to tackle China.

The pact between India and the Philippines will be signed soon which will provide an authority to  the Indian navy to navigate in the area of Philippines (or in the South China sea). Recently India has also brought the issue of Hongkong in the United Nations which is a good effort. Now, India is also deciding to include Australia as a fourth country in the Malabar Exercise Group (the name for naval exercise). Previously India, Japan, and the USA were participating but now soon Australia will be included. This should have been done long before but overall it is a plausible decision.

Further going India could also maintain its relationship with other countries like Mongolia, Vietnam, and countries of the South China Sea. If they together form a group then it will be a winning situation for all and will help them to counter Chinese expansionism policy. Europe and China have a great relationship in terms of trade but at present, there are little concerns raising in Europe against China. So, now India and Europe can come together and make some policies to act together in the trade as well as in other sections. The successful conclusion of these all factors will not only lead to a better future of India and other countries but it will also help to maintain peace and tranquillity around the world. We hope that the Government of India will take decisions around all these factors.
